What is hard water?
Hard water is dissolved Calcium present in your water.
Hard Water is problematic because the dissolved Calcium interferes with soaps, causes rinsing to be incomplete, leaves deposits on every surface that allows water to dry, and destroys water heating appliances.
Softening the water with ion exchange is only way to remove the calcium, without more expensive methods like reverse osmosis. A REAL water softener uses salt to clean and regenerate itself, and will continue to work as long as the media stays clean. Typically we see over 20 years of dependable performance on our Kinetico softeners before any significant service is needed.
There are other “alternative” treatments promised by sellers. Be cautious of anyone who has not offered to test your water first because that is a sign of a scam.
